2026 and Beyond

ice storm 2026, beautiful danger

So what's in store for Long Talks in the Woods in 2026?

When we left off in 2022, Long Talks in the Woods was at the edge of becoming something a little bit more than a conversation series, and the three co-founders had big life things on the go- projects, a PhD to finish, futures to care for more intensively.

We hope today to create a space for practice, for world-building, for enacting community and social transformation in solidarity with communities of life across the planet. This is likely to start slowly, as we still have all the life things on the go, but we also desire an anchor, a conscientious move towards the worlds we know are possible and necessary.

This will probably start with a couple of sessions, some films to watch and talk about, and space for deciding on programming together.

  • Global trade that produces livable futures, a session based on the PhD research of Dr. Shaun Sellers, where she finally presents the work that she's been doing all these years that gave her the doctor in front of her name :)
  • Resisting fortress worlds and building alternatives, an introduction session to frame future sessions and workshops in which we examine the possible dystopian futures that are presented as the 'only option' when we experience natural and geopolitical crises. Then we explore together the narratives and community practices that contest them, and how we can situate our collective actions in long-term convivial world-building.
  • Film Screenings for conversation, catharsis, and inspiration.
  • Long Talks at Rise Above Guest House and Long Talks in the Wildewood, sessions, screenings, and workshops happening in Maynooth and Maple Leaf, and perhaps beyond.
